Dental Gum Disease

Gum Disease Can Present Serious Health Problems

Medical research has proven that gum disease affects more than your teeth. The bacteria in the gums eventually travels throughout the body and contributes to heart disease, diabetes, and stroke, as well as other concerns. What's worse, the American Dental Association has provided the statistic that potentially 80% of Americans have gum disease! That is a staggering percentage of the population with this affliction. If this were another disease, such as tuberculosis, it would be labeled a national epidemic! Dentists are now considering it to be just that, especially because with advanced periodontal disease, you can lose more than your teeth!

The American Academy of Periodontology reports, "studies found periodontal infection may contribute to the development of heart disease, increase the risk of premature, underweight births, and pose a serious threat to people whose health is already compromised due to diabetes and respiratory diseases."
